If you have crooked or crowded teeth, then your smile could be more susceptible to tooth decay, gingivitis, TMJ disorder, or bruxism. Correcting misalignment can help you enjoy a healthier and esthetically pleasing smile. Did you know that with Propel® orthodontics, we can actually accelerate Invisalign treatment?
How Do Clear Aligners Work?
If we decide clear aligners are the best choice for your smile, then we will take digital impressions of your smile using iTero technology. iTero can also allow us to show you what the results of your treatment will look like. Once an Invisalign lab receives the impression and images, they will create a series of clear plastic aligners. The patient will then wear the aligners every day and upgrade to a new set about once every two weeks. Total treatment time will vary depending on the cause and severity of the patient’s misalignment, but on average adults take about a year and teens 18 months.
As your teeth are repositioned, the jawbone tissue and periodontal tissue must also change and shift to accommodate your teeth’s new position. With Propel technology, we can increase the rate at which the jawbone and gum tissues change, which in turn accelerates the amount of time needed for treatment, often by as much as 50%!
The Benefits of Corrected Smiles
How does correcting your smile benefit you? Aside from the confidence of a beautiful, even smile, you can also experience a reduced risk of tooth decay, gingivitis, and gum disease, as thorough brushing and flossing is much easier with an even smile. In addition, correcting misalignment relieves strain on the jaw joints, reducing the risks of TMJ disorder and bruxism.
