How Does Invisalign Work?

When most people think about orthodontic treatment, they envision metal brackets and wires. However, we’re proud to offer a practically invisible alternative using the Invisalign system. How does Invisalign work? What separates this treatment from traditional orthodontics?

Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign

Question: How do you create the aligners?

Answer: First, we will take digital images of your smile using an intraoral camera. We will also gather images using digital x-rays. These materials are then sent to an Invisalign lab, where experts will craft a series of aligners from a BPA-free plastic. The aligners will also be clear.

Question: How often will I need to wear them?

Answer: You will need to wear them daily, for a minimum of 20 to 23 hours. Of course, you can remove them for meals, special occasions, or before brushing and flossing your teeth. However, make sure you wear them for the minimum amount of time the doctor recommends.

Question: When do I move on to the new set?

Answer: You will wear a new set every two weeks. As you change aligners, your teeth will continue to be gradually and comfortably repositioned, improving alignment over the course of a year to 18 months. The total amount of time will depend on a number of factors, including age and the severity of the patient’s misalignment.

Question: Do I have to change my diet?

Answer: Not at all. With braces, patients need to avoid hard or sticky foods, as these can become trapped in the braces or possibly damage them. However, since you can remove your aligners, there’s no need to avoid these foods. Being able to remove them before you brush and floss can also make caring for teeth during treatment much easier as well.
