With braces, metal brackets and wires are employed to reposition the teeth and correct misalignment. However, we have an entirely different approach. Using clear aligners, we correct smiles with an esthetically pleasing and comfortable alternative to braces. What can you expect from your aligners?
Design and Creation
First, we need to design them. Instead of taking impressions by having you bite down on poor tasting and messy material, we will use digital technology. The iTero wand will gather detailed images of your smile, which will be used by a lab to create your aligners. They will be made from a clear, BPA-free plastic. Once complete, your treatment begins.
You will need to wear the aligners every day, no exceptions. However, they can be removed for meals or when brushing/flossing your teeth. You can also remove them for special occasions, just as long as you’re wearing them for between 20 and 23 hours daily. About every two weeks, you will upgrade to a new set. Total treatment time varies, but on average adults wear them for a year and teens/children for around 18 months.
Benefits of Clear Aligners
What benefits does this system offer? First, the aligners are clear, which means they are practically invisible when worn. In addition, they are more comfortable than braces, sparing you the gum and cheek irritation often encountered with metal orthodontics. In addition, being able to remove prior to meals means you don’t need to change what you eat and avoid hard/chewy foods. Being able to remove them before cleaning your teeth also improves your ability to thoroughly brush and floss. Finally, treatment requires fewer office visits and is often shorter than the time required for metal braces to work. If you have any questions about Invisalign, then contact our team today.
